Polestar anticipates crucial year ahead with new SUVs, no plan for budget EVs

In the dynamic landscape of electric vehicles (EVs), Swedish car brand Polestar continues to steer towards a future defined by innovation, performance and exclusivity. With the brand’s unwavering commitment to excellence, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath has shed light on the company’s trajectory, emphasizing that the year ahead will be crucial with launch of new SUVs.

Reflecting on the past, CEO Ingenlath acknowledged the significance of the Polestar 2, a testament to the brand's initial foray into the EV market. In spite of encountering various challenges, the company delivered an impressive 54,000 cars worldwide in 2023, underlining its competitive edge in the EV sector.

CEO Ingenlath’s vision for Polestar extends beyond mass appeal, with a focus on cultivating a niche in the premium and performance-driven segment. The top executive revealed that the company has no plans for budget EVs or models below the Polestar 2 as the brand is committed to delivering matchless sophistication and driving dynamics.

He explained that people often ignore the fact that it took Tesla around a decade to actually get noticed. As a new brand in the EV sector, a company actually has to come to the table a bit faster. He stressed that there are no plans for cheaper models in the Polestar portfolio.

Speaking on the topic, Ingenlath said, “Critical mass doesn't mean mass appeal. There are no plans for cheaper models in the Polestar portfolio, or ones that go below the Polestar 2 in price. The portfolio that we have starts at the Polestar 2 price level and it goes all the way up to you know where 5 and 6 will be. The mass market is not our market.”

He emphasized on the fundamental ethos of the company: a steadfast commitment to the premium, exclusive and high-performance segment.

Looking ahead, the Swedish brand’s growth trajectory hinges on the imminent arrival of two revolutionary crossovers, viz. the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4. Positioned as pivotal milestones in the brand's journey, these EVs epitomize the brand’s unwavering commitment to expanding its presence in the market.

Ingenlath's insights offer a glimpse into Polestar's steadfast dedication to innovation, performance & differentiation, and as the brand charts a course towards a distinctive future, it remains steadfast in its pursuit of excellence, poised to redefine the automotive landscape with its visionary approach and unwavering commitment to premium offerings.
