"Polish Fritzl" goes on trial

"Polish Fritzl" goes on trialWarsaw - A 46-year-old man called the "Polish Fritzl" took the stand Friday after he allegedly raped his daughter repeatedly and kept her prisoner for six years.

Krzysztof B. faces charges of repeatedly raping his daughter using violence and threats, and physically and emotionally abusing his family.

The proceedings are being held behind closed doors in the eastern city of Bialystok, reported the Polish Press Agency PAP.

The trial comes a day after the case of Austrian Josef Fritzl, who was found guilty Thursday and sentenced to life imprisonment for the death of a baby he fathered with his daughter Elisabeth. Fritzl had similarly held his daughter prisoner in a dungeon below his house.

Krzysztof B., whose last name is withheld by Polish law, was arrested in September 2008 near the Belarus border.

Police said his daughter, aged 21, gave birth to two boys in 2005 and 2007 that were likely the result of rape, and was later forced by her father to leave them at the hospital. The man first allegedly raped the victim when she was 14, prosecutors said. (dpa)
