Islamabad, Sept 3: Even as PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is all set to win the September 6 presidential election, there is a growing feeling among the business and economic circles of Pakistan that Zardari would be successful in turning the economy around because of his sharp business instincts and active participation in mega projects during the last PPP governments.
People recall that it was Zardari’s direct involvement during Benazir Bhutto’s second stint of prime ministership which resulted in the massive induction of power generation through the IPPs.
Washington, Sept. 3: The bad-boy image of Levi Johnston, 18, the boyfriend of Bristol Palin, 17, has reportedly added to Senator John McCain’s woes in choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate in the Republican bid for the White House.
Some Republicans linked to the attacks on Palin believed that McCain had sacrificed thoroughness in the vetting process so that secrecy could be maintained, the Telegraph reports.

New York, Sept. 3: Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has acquired an eight point lead over Republican rival John McCain, and for the first time cracked the 50 percent milestone in the latest Gallup Poll.
This threshold is considered to be a safe number for victory.
According to Gallup’s Daily Tracking Poll, Obama leads McCain, 50 percent to 42 percent.
McCain is “well below” his 48 percent top support level, recorded in late April/early May, in a hypothetical match-up against Obama, said Gallup pollster Lydia Saad.
Islamabad, Sept 3: PPP Co-chairman and presidential hopeful, Asif Ali Zardari has said that the upcoming presidential election will not be an easy victory for his party, but a close fight. Though, he claimed the support of 90 percent of political parties.
“It’s going to be a fight, it’s not going to be a walkover,” Zardari said, adding that he had the support of “90 percent of political forces”.
Islamabad, Sept 3: The ceasefire presently in place in the tribal areas in Pakistan would be lifted after the Ramzan month, and military operation would resume in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and other restive areas of the NWFP after the holy month ends, said Rehman Malik, the Adviser on Interior Affairs to Pakistan Prime Minister.
Malik said the operation had been suspended during the holy month and would resume after Ramazan and continue until the writ of the government is established in the area.
Lahore, Sept 3: On the eve of the September 6 Presidential poll in Pakistan, the PPP, which has fielded its Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as the front-runner candidate, has decided to stage a show of strength in Islamabad and all four provincial capitals on Friday.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at the Governor’s House in Lahore, said party sources.
