Quality education is a basic human right: Vice President

hamid ansariNew Delhi, Oct 13 : Vice President M. Hamid Ansari said that quality education is a basic human right, while launching the ‘Quality Programme’ of Educational Quality Foundation of India
(EQFI) at a function here today.

Ansari said, “The centrality of education in the well being of a society cannot be overstated. It is a public good, a basic human right, a fundamental right, and an important instrumentality for social and economic empowerment.”

“There is an urgent need for a national body to monitor the quality of both government and private schools to ensure that the minimum standards are met in terms of learning outcomes,” said Ansari, while emphasizing on quality education.

The Vice President, while praising the initiative taken by the Education Quality Foundation, said timely assessment of institutions on the quantifiable performance criteria would help in better understanding and implementation of the quality of education imparted to the young citizens.

He further said that quality assurance must be demystified for it to take root in the education sector.

The advocacy, research and analysing role of the Foundation and its ilk in the broader civil society should lead to every child having access to education of an acceptable quality in every region of the country, added Ansari.

EQFI is a not-for-profit organization that aims at evangelizing the concept of “Quality in Education” in India.

The objective of the organization is to rekindle consciousness about quality in schools and enable them to demonstrate professional responsibility and accountability. (ANI)
