This rally could wreck your weekend

1.25 lakh students expected to turn up at Palace Grounds on Saturday for anti-terror drive rally, but numbers could go up

Got plans for Saturday? Start early or drop the idea. The education department's huge anti-terror rally on Feb 28 at the Palace Grounds promises to be a traffic stopper. Over a lakh students are expected to take part in this mega event, which has already forced many people to reschedule their plans for the day.

So if you're on Bellary Road, Nandidurg Road, Vasanthnagar or Sadashivnagar, be prepared because the rally can cause a major traffic gridlock in these areas.

The rally, which is being organised to mark the end of the state government's two-month-old anti-terror campaign in colleges, could to be a replay of the November 17, 2008, JD(S) rally that brought Bangalore to a standstill for over six hours.

Although the sanctioned limit by police commissioner Shankar M Bidari is 25,000, the numbers according to education department officials could go up to six lakh. Bidari had on Thursday said that he could only allow 25,000 people.
