Rane unhappy with Ashok Chavan as new CM

Ashok Chavan has been named as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. On Friday, Congress leaders Pranab Mukherjee and A.K. Antony declared the name of Mr. Chavan, son of the former Union Home Minister and former State Chief Minister, S.B. Chavan, as the successor to Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Mr. Chavan told followers at his residence here that his first priority would be to regain the confidence of the common man. “It’s a challenge for me and a great responsibility to win the confidence of the people,” he said.

On the other hand, revenue minister Narayan Rane, after being denied the post of chief minister, is contemplating of floating his own party.

With the single mission of demolishing the Congress in the state for not making him the chief minister, Rane will, in most probability work against the Congress and support the Nationalist Congress Party in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Rane is believed to have lashed out at the Congress leadership for not making him the chief minister and choosing Ashok Chavan instead. However, unwilling to acknowledge defeat he said, “To me what is important is to remain in the heart of the people. I don’t want any post in the Congress.”
