Rani Mukherjee In Deepa’s Next!

Deepa MehtaNoted Bollywood film maker Deepa Mehta has roped in Rani Mukherjee for her upcoming film, which is actually an adaptation of famous writer Salman Rushdie's well-known novel 'Midnight's Children'.

According to the sources, the actress met Rushdie and Mehta in Toronto. If hearsays are to be trusted Rushdie took a great fancy to her.

On the other hand, Deepa stated that nothing had been confirmed thus far.

But, authentic sources claimed that Rani is part of the most coveted flick that already has multi-talented Shabana Azmi, superb Seema Biswas and brilliant actor-director Nandita Das in its cast.

The film will hit theatres in September 2010.

Suggesting at the likelihood of working with Mukherjee, Deepa said, "I don't know about Rani's current box-office status but I have always wanted to work with her. I saw her work in Hey Ram, Black, Bunty Aur Babli and Veer-Zaara and loved it. She is among the best talent in India today. I have always enjoyed working with strong, female actors."

Rani is also looking for a challenge, which will take her ahead of the characters she has done in Hindi film industry up till now.

The most interesting thing about Rani is that she has never worked with a female director in her whole career.

Deepa is also desperate to begin her much delayed project 'Komagata Maru'.

"We start shooting only in 2013 and are thinking of a release in 2014. It will have Akshay Kumar in the lead with other Canadian actors," said Deepa.
