Amritsar, Mar 24: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Tuesday morning paid obeisance at the Sri Harmandir Sahib also known as the Golden Temple.
Dr. Singh along with his wife Gursharan Kaur offered thanks giving prayers after his successful coronary by-pass surgery.
Before entering the sanctom sanctorum, the Prime Minister did ''Parikrama'' of Sri Harmandir Sahib and then listened to the ''path'' and ''ardaas''. He spent more than half-an-hour there.
Before leaving for New Delhi, Dr. Singh also visited the Durgiana Temple.
Amritsar, Mar. 21 : Punjab authorities have asked local licensed arms holders to deposit their arms to ensure fair and safe polling.
According to standard election norms in India, arm holders are asked to deposit their arms temporarily in their area''s local police station or to arms dealers.
"It is government''s policy to get the arms deposited that people cannot resort to unfair means during the elections," said Balwinder Singh, an arms dealer.
Amritsar March 19, : The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), on Thursday issued 541 Nanak Shahi Calendar despite objections raised by many Sikh organisations.
Avtar Singh Makkar, the President SGPC and Jathedar Akal Takhat Gurbachan Singh unwrapped the Sikh Calendar and the “Jantri” (Calendar with Sikh festivals and other religious important dates) at the information office of SGPC.
The calendar depicts the picture of smashed building of Akal Takht in 1984 during the “Operation Blue Star”.
Amritsar, March 19 : Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the highest governing body of Sikhs, has written a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh over the reported fire incident of a Gurdwara in East London (UK).
“The SGPC has written a letter to Dr. Manmohan Singh about Gurdwara Sahib burnt in East London (UK). It has also demanded a police investigation to know if it was an accident or anything else,” said Avtar Singh Makkar, the President SGPC.
Amritsar, March 18 : At a time when all political parties are announcing their lists of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the recently formed party of popular satirist and comedian Jaspal Bhatti has also announced its candidate.
Jaspal Bhatti has announced "Ghulle Shah" (comedian) alias Surinder Farishta, as the candidate of his Recession Party for Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency for the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
