Actress Mahima Chaudhary caught in Congress-BJP clash in JharkhandDhanbad, Nov 24 : Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhary was on Monday caught up in a scuffle between Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists in Jharkhand ''s Dhanbad district.

Chaudhary was campaigning for a Congress candidate along with other party workers as they ran into activists of rival BJP.

Police said around 10,000 people clashed and the matter is being investigated. The actress however escaped unhurt as the people around her covered her when the activists went berserk.

400 sacks of ammonium nitrate seized in Jharkhand

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Jan 16 : In a major haul, police seized 400 sacks of ammonium nitrate from Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

The recovery was made from a quarter of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) during a raid by the members of the Special Task Force.

The seized sacks were from a consignment looted from a police station in December last year.

One accused, Jitender Singh, from whose quarters the recovery was made, was also arrested by the officials and taken into custody.

Visitors were disallowed in this area after naxals had gunned down 22 police personnel 10 years ago. But, with the government determined to bring normalcy in the State, the authorities have decided to reopen the lake for tourists and other holidaying visitors.

Mobile school of Jharkhand’s coal city--Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Feb. 21 : A mobile school in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, is spreading education among underprivileged children in the absence of proper school buildings.

The absence of school buildings is due to the dangers posed to them by pit fires of closed or unused coal mines.

The mobile school has been introduced under the Centre’s Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (Education for All) scheme.

Ramanand Paswan, a teacher by profession, has been appointed to visit various localities in Jharia, Jairam Pur and Bagdigi to ensure that basic education is provided to kids.

Over 400 tortoises seized in Jharkhand

Dhanbad, Nov 11 : The Jharkhand Police seized over 400 tortoises in Dhanbad District of the state on Saturday.

Following a tip off, the police seized tortoises packed in eight sacks from a car. However, the driver of the car managed to escape.

"The vehicle we brought it to the police station was filled with tortoise," said Jeetendra Kumar, officer in-charge of Govindpur Police Station.

Police said the amphibians were smuggled from Benaras.

Forest officials said the guilty would be nabbed after investigation report.
