Court hearing on Egyptian business tycoon adjourned

Egypt MapCairo - Egypt's criminal court postponed on Saturday a hearing on the murder charges against business tycoon and lawmaker Hisham Talaat Moustafa to Sunday to hear witnesses.

According to press reports, the court is to question around 12 witnesses on Sunday.

Moustafa is accused of the murder of Lebanese singer Suzane Tamim.

A former chairman of Egypt's largest publicly traded real estate company and a member of the Shura Council, the upper house of parliament, Moustafa was arrested on September 2 and charged with contracting for the killing.

According to a report in National Geographic News, the little-known sealed space may support the theory that the 4,500-year-old monument to Pharaoh Khufu was constructed inside out, via a spiraling, inclined interior tunnel.

This idea contradicts the prevailing wisdom that the monuments were built using an external ramp.

The inside-out theory''s key proponent, French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin, said that for centuries, Egyptologists have ignored evidence staring them in the face.

Egyptian President Mubarak arrives Sunday on India visit New Delhi  - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was scheduled to arrive in India Sunday on a four-day state visit aimed at strengthening strategic and economic cooperation, Indian diplomatic officials said.

It would be Mubarak's first trip to India in 25 years. He was to be accompanied by a large delegation including five senior ministers and leading businessmen.

The Egyptian leader is scheduled to meet Indian President Pratibha Patil and hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a Ministry of External Affairs release said.

German street performer Johan Lorbeer was putting on a display at the entrance of the Goethe Institute in central Cairo as part of an open day organized by the German cultural centre.

The arrival of the fire trucks sent a ripple of fright through the crowd.

ONGC Videsh consortium strikes oil for the second time in Egypt

ONGC Videsh Ltd.New Delhi, Nov. 13: ONGC Videsh Ltd. and its partner IPR Red Sea Inc. have made a second oil discovery in the North Ramadan Concession, Gulf of Suez, Egypt.

The discovery in well North Ramadan-2 (NR-2) is the second oil discovery in this block. The discovery well, NR-2, is located on a separate fault block north of IPR''s first oil discovery, NR-1A ST1, which produced approx. 3,000 BOPD (barrels of oil per day) and 1.5 MMSCFPD (million standard cubic feet per day) during the testing phase.

Egypt, Israel failed to respect basic asylum procedures

Cairo - At least 32 African migrants were shot dead by Egyptian guards since June 2007, while Israel has forcibly returned at least 139 border crossers to Egypt, Human Rights Watch said in a report released Wednesday.

In the 90-page report, "Sinai Perils: Risks to Migrants, Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Egypt and Israel," the rights group called on Egypt to halt the use of lethal force against border crossers and all deportations of persons to countries where they risk persecution or ill-treatment.

It also urged Israel to halt forced returns of migrants to Egypt, where they face military court trials and possible unlawful deportation to their countries of origin.
