Athens - The Greek weightlifting team could miss the Beijing Olympics and other upcoming international events after 11 of its athletes failed doping tests last month.

The Hellenic Weightlifting Federation confirmed on Friday that five men and six women from the 14-strong national team were caught using forbidden substances at out-of-competition tests carried out by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) by request of the world governing body IWF on March 7.

Athens - Greece's Olympic weightlifting coach Christos Iacovou was suspended on Friday after WADA found 11 Greek weightlifters to have tested positive for using banned substances.

Athens, Nov 13: A wrestling school said to have been a part of Greek philosopher Aristotle's famous Lyceum, has fallen victim to the ravages of time and official apathy.

Unearthed in 1996, the wrestling school and other institutions in the Lyceum was a significant centre of study and research in diverse fields.

Opened in 335 BC, the school promoted the development of Western science and philosophy and was named for its sanctuary to Apollo Lykeios. Alongside these intellectual pursuits, physical exercise was also undertaken, as the excavation of a wrestling ring has illustrated.
