Union Cabinet approves extradition treaty with IranNew Delhi, Sept 11 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for the signing and ratification of the Extradition Treaty between India and Iran.

The treaty would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders, and other criminals from and to Iran.

Moreover, the Cabinet also gave its approval for signing of the ‘Agreement between India and Iran on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters’.

More than 30 feared dead in boat sinking in India's Bihar New Delhi - More than 30 people were feared to have drowned after a boat capsized in India's eastern Bihar state on Thursday, police said.

The overloaded boat capsized in the Harohar river in Sheikhpura district, 40 kilometres north of Bihar capital Patna, an official at the state police control room said.

One woman passenger and about five men swam to safety, but more than 30 passengers were still missing, the official said.

Supreme Court extends ban on SIMI for four weeks

Supreme Court extends ban on SIMI for six weeksNew Delhi, Sept. 11 : The Supreme Court today extended the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for four weeks.

Earlier, on August 25, the Supreme Court had extended the ban on SIMI by six weeks.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan also fixed September 24 as the date for next hearing in this case.

The Centre had challenged the decision of the Special Tribunal headed by Justice Geeta Mittal to lift the ban on SIMI.
