Islamabad, Sept 26 : The Pakistan Government is said to be planning a reorientation programme for the print as well as electronic media to encourage them to avoid publishing, airing or telecasting reports glorifying the acts of terror or those behind them.
A request to the media would be made to conduct an exercise on its own to see how to discourage reporting and comments that glorify terrorists and portray them as heroes, said Farhatullah Babar, the official PPP spokesman.
“Of course the media needs to be careful as far as glorification of the terrorist and the harassment of people by reporting and commentaries is concerned,” he added.
Islamabad - The Pakistani army said on Thursday its border troops opened fire at helicopters of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) after the aircraft violated the country's airspace along the border with Afghanistan.
The incident took place at 3.30 pm (1030 GMT) when two helicopters from Afghanistan crossed into Pakistan territory in the Saidgai Ghulam Khan area of the North Waziristan tribal district, a known sanctuary of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants launching attacks on international forces on the other side of the frontier.
Islamabad, Sept 25 : After the UK, the US too has suspended its visa service in Pakistan for an indefinite period, in the wake of Marriott hotel suicide attack in which 60 people lost their lives and more than 250 were injured.
Confirming this, US embassy spokesperson in Islamabad said that only those applicants who were called for interviews today would be entertained today, and this service will not be available tomorrow onwards, reported The News.
Islamabad, Sept 25 : Amid threat of more Marriott-like terror strikes in the near future in Pakistan from the militant outfit Fedayeen al-Islam (which claimed responsibility for Saturday’s blast), the country’s President Asif Ali Zardari has appealed to his countrymen to support the war-on-terror.
He said that international support for Pakistani anti-terror efforts was “important”, but the unilateral US strikes undermined efforts to “win hearts and minds” of his countrymen.
Islamabad, Sept 25 : All airports in Pakistan have reportedly been put on a red alert after Islamabad''s International Terminal received a phone call warning of a possible bomb attack at the airport.
Flights were, however, operating as normal, an official at the Islamabad Airport said.
“We have ordered a red alert at all airports following the threat received at Islamabad airport,” a senior Airport Security Force official said on the condition of anonymity.
Islamabad - International airports in all major cities of Pakistan were put on alert on Thursday following threats of suicide bombings by Islamic militants, officials and media reports said.
A state of emergency was declared at Islamabad airport, which was recently named after slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, after a warning that a suicide bomber could strike the facility located just outside the capital city.
