Jammu, August 23 : The second round of talks between Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS), the group that is spearheading the land transfer agitation in Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir for the past two months and a panel of the state government ends on a positive note on Saturday.

The four member panel appointed by Governor N. N. Vohra held parleys with the four member committee appointed by the SASS.

The representatives expressed hope for an early solution to the issue after the meeting.

New Delhi: People of Jammu and Srinagar have displayed an enormous capacity to be active, demonstrating and venting their anger against each other during the last two months.

The basic issue that sparked off the demonstrations was the transfer of 100 acres of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, mainly in Baltal, to set up pre-fabricated structures for the use of pilgrims. But the controversy has now grown beyond the issue of the transfer of land.

Srinagar, Aug 23: A four-member committee set up by Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra will be holding its first round of talks with the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) here today to discuss the five-point agenda submitted by the government to the Samiti.

The four-member committee side is headed by Tilak Raj Sharma while the government side is headed by the former Chief Secretary, S. S. Bloeria. He is now Adviser to the Governor.

New Delhi - Four Indian soldiers, including a colonel, were killed in a gunbattle with suspected Islamic militants in the Kupwara district of northern Jammu and Kashmir state on Friday, news reports said.

Four militants were also killed in the encounter in the dense forests of the Macchal sector near the line of control, a de facto border that separates India and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, PTI news agency reported.
