KolkataNew Delhi, Feb 20 : Fifty Eight Rajya Sabha members on Friday filed a petition before the House Chairman seeking the removal of Calcutta High Court Judge Soumitra Sen on grounds of financial misconduct.

Members of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), Communist Party of India
(CPI), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
(AIADMK) and Janta Dal (United) submitted a petition to

Diarrhea Hits Kolkata BadlyThe death of a four year girl and 40-odd people falling ill due to an outburst of diarrhea in Tikiapara off Garden Reach in Kolkata has shaken and saddened the entire state.

It is believed that diarrhea have spread from contamination water due to the ongoing sewer line laying work in the locality.

Speaking with the media persons on this issue, Subodh Dey, Member, Mayor-in-Council (Health) of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) said that nearly 20 people, most of them believed to be from the slum areas have been admitted to hospital and the rest of those afflicted were being treated in private hospitals.

The Statesman''s editor, publisher arrested for hurting Muslim feelings, out on bail

/London, Feb. 12 : The editor and publisher of the Kolkata-based daily The Statesman were arrested on Wednesday for "hurting the religious feelings" of Muslims after they had reprinted an article from The Independent.

Ravindra Kumar, the editor of the paper, and Anand Sinha, the printer and publisher of the paper, were arrested on a complaint by a resident of Eliot Lane, Kolkata, and charged under Sections 295A (deliberate act with malicious intent to outrage religious feelings) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

They were produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S. S. Anand, who granted them bail.

A major fire breaks out in an oil mill in KolkataKolkata, Feb 10 : A major fire broke out in an oil mill in Kolkata this morning.

The fire broke out in the shed housing the warehouse and office of the mustard oil mill located at Posta Bazaar, one of the most congested areas of the city.

Fire brigade officials said that it took more than four hours to control the raging fire.

"We are trying our best to save the adjacent building and property. We also rescued two persons from the top floor of the building," said Bibhas Guha, Divisional Fire Officer, Kolkata.
