Muslam Sukarno, a resident of the northern state of Pahang, died after his car plunged into a ravine Tuesday morning, the News Straits Times reported.

Freeze on foreign workers may hit aspiring Malaysia-bound Indian workers

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 16 : the Malaysian Human Resources Ministry is considering a temporary freeze on the recruitment of foreign workers to assist natives displaced from work.

A move that may hit aspiring Indian workers that constitutes a large percentage of the foreign work force in that country.

Director-General of Labour Ministry Abdul Rahim has said that this step is one of the options being studied to assist Malaysians displaced from work.

As of last month, 28,000 jobless Malaysians had registered with the Labour Department. The department found jobs for 6,000 of them, the NST Online reported.

Malaysian government introduces witness protection bill

Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysia's law minister on Tuesday introduced a witness protection programme in Parliament as part of efforts to protect whistle-blowers in corruption and criminal cases.

Nazri Abdul Aziz presented the proposed legislation, which would provide accommodation and a new identity to those accepted as witnesses.

Under the bill, the attorney general would approve applications by whistle-blowers who have to meet an exhaustive list of criteria, including passing physical and mental examinations.

Nazri also said that informers would be allowed to give evidence from the dock with their faces covered while children could testify from a separate room.

Malaysian kids doing well after surgery in Bangalore

Malaysia FlagKuala Lumpur, Dec 15 : Two Malaysian children with heart ailments are recuperating well after undergoing successful surgeries at the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore on December 11.

The kids, Ang Xiao Xuan, 3, from Penang and Maisaiyida Mohmad Afandi, 6, of Johor, would most probably return home in two weeks.

And another 10-year-old patient, Muhammad Khairul Shahrizat from Pekan, Pahang, will be undergoing surgery tomorrow (Dec 16).
