London, Sept. 25 : The British Defence Ministry has finally apologised to a lesbian soldier over sexual harassment she suffered from a sergeant.

London  - A blind Muslim student in Britain has won the right to take a guide dog into a mosque in what is being seen as a groundbreaking decision by a Muslim Law (Shariah) Council.

Mohammed Abraar Khatri, 18, will now be able to enter his place of worship in Leicester, central England, with his guide dog Vargo, who will have to wait outside the prayer hall.

The fatwa, issued at Khatri's request, followed months of cooperation between the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) and the Guide Dogs Association, reports said Wednesday.

It was described as a "massive step forward for other blind and partially-sighted Muslims" by the Guide Dogs Association, and welcomed by the Mosques Council.

London, September 24: Scientists have announced that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which aims to unravel the secrets of the Big Bang, will be closed down until spring 2009, as they work towards repairing a magnetic failure.

The LHC circulates particles in a 17-mile circumference underground tunnel straddling the French-Swiss border at The European Organization for Nuclear Research, near Geneva, Switzerland, known by the acronym CERN.

London  - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Tuesday took on his critics in an emotional and highly personal speech aimed at re- establishing his authority after months of poor opinion poll ratings and an attempted "rebellion" against his leadership.

1805 Battle of Trafalgar was auctioned for 8,160 pounds (15,000 dollars) in London Tuesday.

The price for the silver-mounted oak commemorative box was far higher than the maximum pre-auction estimate of 1,200 pounds, a spokesman for auction house Bonhams said.
