London, Sept 21 : A portrait of the Queen, painted by Sir Peter Blake, one of the greatest pop artists in UK, will go under the hammer to raise money for a cancer charity.

Originally, Blake painted the portrait for a reception held at the Royal Academy of Arts to celebrate the Queen''s Golden Jubilee in 2002.

The piece of art, along with several others, will be auctioned at The Macmillan De''Longhi on Sept 23 in London, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

He is known for his rock album covers, right from the Beatles'' Sgt. Pepper''s to Stop the Clocks by Oasis, reports Telegraph.

Added to his credit are his vivid paintings and collages of seemingly-everyday scenes and objects.

London, Sept 21 : The use of terms like “Old Masters” and “seminal” by students and academics have been banned, because of claims that they are sexist.

The British Sociological Association, whose members include dozens of professors, lecturers and researchers, wrote the list of banned words.

Words like immigrants, developing nations and black are a part of the list of allegedly racist words, while so-called "disablist" terms include patient, the elderly and special needs.

The move comes after one council outlawed the allegedly sexist phrase "man on the street", and another banned staff from saying "brainstorm" in case it offended people with epilepsy.

London, Sept 21: Grannies who stay miles away from technology may soon find themselves pressured to learn to send text messages, all thanks to the efforts of a group of kids who have produced a book of tips on how to improve the world.

The book, ‘Teach Your Granny to Text & Other Ways to Change the World’, includes teaching grandparents to text.

The manual has been written by kids for kids and is being sent by the Government to every state school in England.

The book was compiled by We Are What We Do, a social change group, after thousands of young people sent in suggestions in response to a competition, reports Telegraph.
