Islamabad, Apr. 13 : Several members of the Pakistan Parliament who do not endorse the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation are worried, as they are unable to decide whether to speak against the deal or keep a low profile on the issue.
With President Asif Ali Zardari sending the sharia regulation bill to Prime Minister Gilani to table it before Parliament for a discussion, the members are caught in a catch 22 situation.
Peshawar, Apr. 13:TheTehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) and the Swat chapter of Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP), have announced that those Members of the National Assembly (MNA) who oppose the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation bill in Parliament will be considered infidels.
TNSM spokesperson Izat Khan asserted that being Muslims is the right of the people of the Malakand division, and therefore, they also have the right to impose the sharia in their area and decide the matters according to the Quranic rulings.
Kabul, Apr. 13 : US and NATO officials are reportedly under pressure to find alternatives to their beleaguered supply lines in the wake of Sunday's pre-dawn attack by militants on a NATO supply depot in Peshawar.
According to the Christian Science Monitor, the raid was carried out by scores of Pakistani Taliban guerrillas.
Islamabad, Apr. 13 : Deciding to play safe on the issue of signing a deal with the Taliban to impose a sharia law in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of the country, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has sent the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation, 2009 to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to table it before Parliament.
Zardari's move clearly suggests that he alone does not want to be held responsible for the controversial deal with the banned Taliban. If the deal backfires, it will be Parliament that would have to take responsibility for it.
Islamabad, Apr. 13 : The US embassy in Pakistan has decided to resume consular work from Monday (today) after suspending its operations last Friday in the wake of a terror threat.
“The US embassy’s consular section will reopen to the public today,” The Daily Times quoted the embassy, as saying.
The embassy would carry out its work according to its scheduled routine. However, any changes would be duly notified, embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said.
