Islamabad, Sep 9: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will not destabilise the government in Punjab, new President Asif Ali Zardari told a PML-N delegation led by Nawaz Sharif.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and seven other PML-N leaders accompanied Sharif to meet Zardari.

Zardari invited the PML-N to return to the coalition government in the Centre. Sharif declined the offer but assured Zardari of support, saying his party would be “a constructive opposition.”

Islamabad - Asif Ali Zardari was set to take the oath of office Tuesday as president of Pakistan after his weekend election, officials said.

"Mr Zardari will be sworn in in a ceremony to be held at the President House around 1 pm [0700 GMT] today," his party's spokesman Farhatullah Babar said Tuesday.

Abdul Hamid Dogar, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, is to administer the oath.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai and foreign diplomats based in Islamabad were expected to attend the ceremony.

Islamabad, Sept 8 : Under a new accountability mechanism in Pakistan, personnel of the armed forces and judiciary may also be held accountable.

According to The News, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted a committee headed by Law Minister Farooq H. Naek to work out the new system, which will be introduced after the National Accountability Ordinance of 1999 in repealed.

In the 1999 ordinance, there was no provision to deal with corruption in the judiciary and armed forces.
