Islamabad, Sep 8 : Pakistani armed forces and judiciary would be made more accountable under a new accountability mechanism, according to reports.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted a committee headed by Law Minister Farooq H. Naek to work out the new system, which will be introduced after the National Accountability Ordinance of 1999 in repealed.
There was no provision in the ordinance to deal with corruption in the judiciary and armed forces.
Islamabad, Sep 8 The meeting between Pakistan’s new President-elect Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif ended at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Monday.
Sharif felicitated Zardari for becoming the president of Pakistan and assured him of full cooperation as opposition.
The PML-N said it would play constructive role for promoting democratic norms as opposition.
Abu Dhabi, Sept 8 : Pakistan has expressed its concern over the 45 member Nuclear Suppliers Group’s (NSG) approval for India.
Its defence attaché in the UAE believes that an arms race will follow in South Asia as a result of NSGs decision to lift the three-decade ban on nuclear trade with India.
According to the Gulf News, the Pakistani Embassy Defence attaché Khawar Hussain said, "I can foresee a nuclear arms race between the two countries and even China."
Peshawar, Sep 8: Seven guided missiles have been fired from US spy planes in Miranshah and adjoining areas in North Waziristan, killing three persons and injuring
15 others, including women and children.
According to sources, the guided missiles targeted the madarssah and house of Afghan commander Jalaluddin Haqqani in Miranshah.
Commander Haqqani was surfaced during war against Russia in Afghanistan and his guerrilla activities gave tough time to Russian forces during wartime, The News reported.
A drone operated by US-led forces in Afghanistan fired six to seven guided missiles at the seminary in Tanda Darpakhel, two kilometres from Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan.
Lahore, Sep 8 : Had there been no secret balloting in the Punjab Assembly (PA), all Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) members would have voted for party’s presidential candidate Mushahid Hussain, said Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, the leader of opposition in the Assembly.
Talking to Daily Times on Sunday, he said that in the past, party members had never gone against party directions, fearing the disqualification clause.
