IAEA detects more uranium traces at Syrian siteVienna  - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has detected more uranium particles and other, possibly nuclear-related material in samples from an alleged Syrian reactor site, an IAEA report and a senior United Nations official said Friday.

The Vienna-based agency said in the report that Syria needed to do more to clear up allegations that the site bombed by the Israeli air force in 2007 was a reactor.

While uranium is used to fuel certain reactor types, graphite can serve as a construction element in the reactor core.

The images of a chemical weapons facility were taken by several commercial sources from 2005 to 2008, the Jerusalem post quoted analyst group, as saying.

A senior US Congress delegation arrives in Syria

A senior US Congress delegation arrives in Syria Damascus - A delegation from the US Congress arrived in Damascus late Friday for talks with the Syrian officials, a US Embassy spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

The congressional delegation, chaired by Democrat Representative Adam Smith, will discuss with Syrian officials US-Syrian relations and security cooperation.

This is the first US delegation to visit the Syrian capital after US president Barack Obama was sworn in on January 20.

Syria officially launches first stock exchange next March Damascus  - Syria's first stock exchange, which is currently operating in pilot trading, will be officially launched on March 9, media reports said on Friday.

The official news agency SANA reported that interim operations of the Damascus Securities Exchange included five large Syrian companies - the International Bank for Trade and Finance, Bank of Syria and Overseas, Arab Bank-Syria, Banque Bemo Saudi-French, and Al-Ahliah Company for Transport.

Abbas accuses Iran, Syria of encouraging Hamas

Mahmoud AbbasJerusalem, Jan 30 : The Palestinian Authority has accused Iran and Syria of encouraging Hamas and other radical groups to establish a new leadership that would challenge the PLO's claim to be the "sole and legitimate" representative of the Palestinians.

The PA fears that several Islamic governments that are unhappy with President Mahmoud Abbas would recognize the potential new leadership, which would be headed by Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal.
