Chidambaram to place all facts related to the 2G Spectrum allocation before the public in the interest of good governance.

"In the interest of good governance, Mukherjee and Chidambaram must project the truth about the 2G telecom spectrum allocation," Pawar told the media.

Pravin Mahajan slips into coma after brain haemorrhage

Pravin Mahajan Thane, Dec 12 : Pravin Mahajan, who is undergoing life imprisonment for murdering his brother and late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, lapsed into coma following a suspected brain haemorrhage.

Pravin was rushed to Jupiter Hospital, Thane, late on Friday night following complaints of high blood pressure.

He had been released by a court on a 14- day parole from the Nasik Central Jail two weeks ago on health grounds.

"Twelve coaches of Gandhidham Express were derailed when the train was approaching Bhiwandi in Thane district. Twelve passengers sustained injuries," said the Central Railways PRO, A K Jain.

Another train has been sent to the accident site to take the passengers of the Gandhidham Express, said Jain.

12 injured as train derails near MumbaiThane, Nov 4 - At least 12 passengers sustained minor injuries when 11 coaches of the Gandhidham-Bengaluru Express derailed near Dombivili here early Wednesday, a railway official said.

"The incident occurred around 2 a. m. near Dombivli on the single-line Vasai-Diva section which links the Western Raiwlay and Central Railway," said an official of the railway control room.

Of the 11 coaches that derailed, at least two overturned and got badly damaged in the incident.

Three killed in Thane building collapse

thaneThane, Oct 29 At least three people were killed and 20 others feared trapped when a portion of a five-storey building collapsed in Maharashtra's Ulhasnagar township here Thursday, police said. The rear portion of the 14-year-old building, Sanmukh Sadan, caved in suddenly in the afternoon, trapping the occupants.

Relief and rescue workers managed to extricate seven injured people from the debris by late evening and were searching for more trapped inside the collapsed building, an official from Thane police said.

Hundreds of Adivasis ‘reconverted’ as Hindus

Hinduism Hundreds of Adivasis from villages in Maharashtra’s Thane district were “reconverted” to Hinduism at a “purification” ceremony in Thane (west) on Monday.

“Today 795 Adivasi (tribal) families were reconverted to Hinduism. We are not having a religious conversion here — it’s a process of purification,” said Jagatguru Swami Narendracharya Maharaj. “We taught them the precepts of the Hindu religion and they decided to convert to Hinduism on their own after repentance. They were not forced.”

Narendracharya said he was converting people who had originally been Hindus.

Fake cop arrested

A 27-year-old man was arrested for impersonating a policeman and trying to rob a truck driver on Sunday.

Harshad Bhanushali, a resident of Thane, stopped the truck near Kharegaon toll naka and told the driver, Vijaynath Vathe (31), that he was a policeman. “The accused told Vathe that he needed to frisk him as he suspected him of carrying ganja. While frisking Vathe, he took out Rs 5,900 from his pocket. He was about to escape but the driver and cleaner caught him and brought him to the police station,” said Police Inspector (Crime) PD Patil.

“Bhanushali is well educated and used to work with a security agency. He is unemployed and might have been looking for easy money. He had no criminal record,” said Patil.

According to sources, "Around 11.30 pm last night, the fire brigade received a call about a fire in a house on the 14th floor of Punarvasu building in the complex. The firemen rushed there, put out the blaze and returned only to be called once again at about 3.30 a. m."

Six firemen choke to death after battling blazeThane, Oct 18 - In a gruesome Diwali tragedy, six firemen suffocated to death after they battled a blaze in a multi-storied building here early Sunday, a senior officer said.

The victims suffocated due to toxic fumes which engulfed the lift of the 14-storey building in which they were returning after dousing fire, Thane Chief Fire Officer Vijay Vaidya said.

After they successfully doused the fire on the terrace of the building, they got trapped in the lift and choked in the fumes that may have accumulated there, he told IANS.

Emco wins order worth Rs 274 crore

Thane-headquartered Emco has notified that it has bagged four orders worth Rs 274 crore for construction of electrical sub-stations in three states including Maharashtra and Haryana.     

The company received the first order, which is valued at Rs 131 crore from Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam to erect sub-stations at Rangla Rajpur, Samain, Rampur Kambaon, Batta and Dadhibana.     

The company secured the second order worth Rs 100 crore from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company to construct one sub-station at Lonikand in Pune district.     

Further, the company has also secured an order worth Rs 43 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India for construction of a sub-station at Kotputli in Jaipur district of Rajasthan.

Lord Ganesh appeased with 1111 lamps

Thane (Maharashtra), Sept 11 : Devotion has many forms. A unique method has been adopted by Pravin Joshi, a devotee who tied 1111 lamps to his body and offered prayers to Lord Ganesha on the occasion of "Ganesh Utsav" at Thane in Maharashtra.

The 1111 lamps tied to his body presented a glorious sight as Pravin Joshi, danced in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha.

The annual ten-day Ganesha festival is celebrated with great ardour across the country. This year the festival began on September 3.

Pravin, who has been performing the act of tying lamps to his body to offer prayers to the god for the past eight years, has performed this act across many states in the country.

Thane blast injures five

Thane, June 4 : A blast in the parking area of Gadkari Rangayatan theatre in Thane today injured five persons.

The blast took place this afternoon in the parking area. The entire place has been cordoned off, said local police.

Thane police officials has informed Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil that a police team has already reached the site to ascertain the nature of the blast, sources in the State Home Department said. (ANI)
