Road accident in India kills 10 returning from wedding party

New Delhi (dpa) - At least 10 people were killed when the bus they were
travelling in collided with a truck in India's north-eastern state of
Assam on Monday, a news report said.

Twenty other passengers were injured in the accident that occurred
in Lakhimpur district, 400 kilometres east of the state's main city of
Guwahati, the PTI news agency reported.

Senior police official, A Karim told PTI while nine passengers died on the scene, another succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

He said the victims were part of a group which was returning to their village after attending a wedding party.

Police said five of the 20 wounded had sustained serious injuries and were admitted at local hospitals.

Road accidents are common in India and often involve wedding revellers on the way to or returning from these parties.

On Sunday, 16 people headed to a wedding celebration in the western city of Mumbai were killed in a collision. (dpa)
