Robin Uthappa Might Be Named As The Next Skipper For Bangalore IPL Team

Robin Uthappa Might Be Named As The Next Skipper For Bangalore IPL TeamMumbai Indians and Bangalore's Royal Challengers have reached a transfer agreement to swap explosive batsman Robin Uthappa and left-hand fast bowler Zaheer Khan for the second edition of the Indian Premier League.

The IPL transfer window opened on December 22 and it was reported that Mumbai Indians were "looking specifically" for an Indian fast bowler.

Commenting over the latest deal, a spokesperson for Mumbai Indians, owned by Reliance Industries said, “It happened last night. We have traded Uthappa for Zaheer at no cost. We had earlier swapped our player Ashish Nehra with Delhi Daredevils batsman Shikhar Dhawan. We have thus maintained the balance of the team.”

"These are the only two trade-offs that have taken place as far as we know," added the spokesperson.

The 'expression of interest' was only the first step of the process. The two franchises now have to reach a transfer agreement after which the players have to sign new contracts. The IPL has to then approve and register the change before the financial details of the deal are hammered out.

However, sources revealed that this is a direct transfer and there will not be any exchange of money in the transfer.

It is also learnt that Robin Uthappa would be named as the skipper of the Bangalore Royal Challengers as Vijay Mallya is not keen to retain Rahul Dravis as the team skipper. The Bangalore team has also signed on Dillon du Preez, an Eagles and Leicestershire fast bowler, du Preez was last season's leading-wicket taker in South Africa's first-class competition.
