London, November 8 : The Royal staff is apparently appalled for not being allowed to commemorate Britain’s war dead following an alleged ban on wearing poppies at full state banquets at Buckingham Palace.

The disappointed staff had reportedly been forbidden from wearing the flower at a dinner hosted by the Queen for foreign diplomats working in London with the reason that it might offend some of the invitees.

The ban may have surfaced keeping in mind the growing midst between Muslim preachers and Brit ‘nationalists’, with the former opposing the idea of wearing poppies as a betrayal of Islamic religion.

The police too were not spared from the interdict and were told by the Foreign Office to leave their symbols at home for the annual occasion graced by more than 300 guests, according to a source.

“They told the Palace that wearing poppies could offend the ambassadors, which is farcical. And as the Foreign Office are in charge, we have to listen,” the Sun quoted a household source as saying.

“Staff are disgusted. It’s a total insult to our veterans and soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice,” the source added.

However, a Palace spokesman denied the reason behind the claim citing that it was a historical misfit to wear the flower at a full state event.

He said: “Historically you do not wear poppies with full state ceremonial evening dress.” (ANI)
