Sex and money led to murder of Malaysian Indian Congress leader

Malaysia India CongressKuala Lumpur, June 7 : An extramarital affair and a desire to have access to one million Ringgit insurance payout turned out to be the motive for the murder of Malaysian Indian Congress Kota Raja youth branch chief S. Selvadhurai last month.

Despite establishing the motive and obtaining confessions from the three suspects, police are still hampered by the lack of evidence to charge them.

According to the New Straits Times, one of the suspects confessed that he threw the murder weapon, believed to be an iron rod, into Sungai Rasau in Padang Jawa.

The suspects in remand now are close relatives of the victim. Their remand order expires on Monday.

Selvadhurai, 43, was reportedly strangled during a robbery in his wife's office on April 28.

His wife, who was present at the time of the crime, said he was assaulted with an iron rod. The couple were running a general insurance agency.

Police initially picked up three suspects -- a close relative, who is in her 30s, a teacher and another man. However, the man and the teacher were later released.

Following this, police picked up two other men from Klang. One of them is the woman's boyfriend.

Investigations also revealed that Selvadhurai was insured for one million Ringgit and that the murder could have been over the money.

The woman had been having an affair with the other suspect for some time, and she and the victim had been quarrelling over it. (ANI)
