While one would not be very excited to see a refurbished truck but R Sridhar, MD of Shriram Transport Finance does not belong to that lot as he is planning to open a chain of auto malls in the country.

Going in the details of the business model, the used trucks will be shown as brides where the auction will happen on it and the company is planning to come up with 60 such malls by the end of 2013. The company is planning to attract close to 1.5 lakh customers by then.

It is to be mentioned here that as the Indian market has close to 5 million trucks on the roads today, out of these close to 1.5-2 million trucks are traded in the used market every year.

While the parent company, Shriram Finance is aiming to bank a lot of money by financing these deals, it may be noted here that the automall subsidiary will earn 0.5-1% from every transaction.

This is surely one of the most innovative business models in the trucks business in India today and if it is able to gain consumer acceptability, it surely has the potential to reach new skies.
