Sistema Shyam gains third carrier licence in 800MHz band
Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL) on Wednesday confirmed that it had gained its third carrier licence in the 800MHz spectrum band.
SSTL Chief Executive Dmitry Shukov said that receiving the third carrier licence post the spectrum auctions in March this year put the company's craving for the same to an end, describing the development as a "major milestone."
Shukov added that the development would allow the company to provide its customers with next generation telecom services.
Speaking on the topic, he said, "This represents a major milestone, as it would enable SSTL to provide its customers with the next generation Rev B Phase II telecom services across all its circles."
While the current services provide speeds of up to 3.1 Mb/s, the Rev B phase II telecom service will provide internet speeds of up to 9.8 Mb/s.
SSTL, which hadn't participated in the 2010's 3G auction, is now planning to buy at least 5MHz of contiguous spectrum in the 800 MHz spectrum band.
It may be noted here that SSTL is a joint venture (JV) between Russia's Sistema and Shyam Group of India.
