Sonia Gandhi lays foundation stone of railway coach factory in Rae Bareilly

Sonia GandhiRae Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), Jan. 27 : Congress party President Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone of a railway coach factory in Rae Bareilly''s Lalganj area on Tuesday.

Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit of her Lok Sabha constituency, said that eight to ten thousand people would get jobs from this project, which is to come up on 522 hectares of land.

Claiming that no coalition Government has been able to achieve as much as the UPA regime, Gandhi said the government would soon announce a reduction in the prices of petroleum products.

"I can say without hesitation that no Government has been able to achieve what the UPA regime has done in the last five years on all fronts. When the world was reeling under recession, India was bound to be affected. But the UPA government has been very alert and has decided that small industries and agriculture and rural development will keep on getting funds from the banks," she said.

Thanking Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav for setting up the railway coach factory in the region, Gandhi expressed hope that in the next railway budget, Prasad would bring more good news for the region.

The project is being set up at a cost of about 1700 crore rupees.

Yadav, who was the chief guest at the event, announced that Gandhi would also inaugurate three lines of dedicated freight corridors next month

Sonia Gandhi''s son and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said education and employment were the key focus areas in development was to take place in Amethi and Rae Baraeilly.

The UPA Chairperson informed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was recovering well from his surgery and wished that he would get back to work soon.

"The whole country has prayed for him and he is recovering quickly," she said, adding "we want him to recover fast and take on his duties". (ANI)
