STD cases hit All-Time High in the US: CDC

More individuals in the United States have been developing Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), as per a report of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The federal agency said it has found that about 20% cases of gonorrhea were in young Americans between 15 and 19 years. It also noted a 33% increase in gonorrhea cases in individuals between 20 and 24 years, the CDC reported.

The leading national public health institute of the country said the new numbers of cases are the highest ever recorded in any condition. CDC officials said about 20,000 US women become infertile every year due to undiagnosed STDs. The agency also said that Chlamydia was the most commonly reported disease in 2014. The country had more than 1,441,700 cases of Chlamydia last year, it added. The latest CDC report showed the first ever increase in gonorrhea since 2013.

The report revealed that many men were affected by the condition. The highest increase in chronic bacterial disease syphilis could be due to bisexual and gay people. The disease affected more than 80% men, the report added. Experts have suggested that any kind of STD could be healed by safe sex and proper medication.

Dr. Gail Bolan of the CDC said, “Certainly, this is the first time since 2006 that all three of our notifiable sexually transmitted diseases have increased. Most surging rates are among men and the consequences are especially severe for young people because chlamydia and gonorrhea often have no symptoms”.
