Sydney's New Year's fireworks to go, er, green

Sydney's New Year's fireworks to go, er, greenSydney  - The world-famous New Year's Eve fireworks display at the end of this month on Sydney Harbour will be environmentally friendly, creative director Rhoda Roberts said Wednesday.

The claim that detonating explosives worth 5 million Australian dollars (3 million US dollars) would not add to Australia's greenhouse gas emissions was made in an interview on national broadcaster ABC.

"Our firework show this year is going to be one of the greenest, and we're leaving a really good footprint," Roberts gushed. "It is gunpowder going bang! But the environmental impact is going to be reduced (to less) than it has been in previous years." (dpa)
