Tamil Nadu Lawyers return to work after month-long strike

Tamil Nadu Lawyers return to work after month-long strikeChennai, Mar 23 : In Tamil Nadu, ending their month-long strike, lawyers returned to courts on Monday following their decision to call off the agitation last Thursday.

Courts were abuzz with activity with advocates resuming work and hearing being taken up in large number of cases.

The lawyers' decision came after the Madras High Court ordered the suspension of two senior police officials, A. K. Vishwanathan (Additional Commissioner of Police) and J. Rama Subramani, and an appeal by the court's full bench to lawyers to immediately call off the agitation, according to advocates spearheading the struggle.

The suspended officers, however, had flown to New Delhi to file an appeal before the Supreme Court on Friday last week.

It may be recalled that advocates went on a strike to protest against the violence in the High Court premises on the February 19.

The police-lawyers' clash took place after two lawyers were arrested for throwing rotten eggs on Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy.

The lawyers also manhandled Swami, who enjoys Z-category security. (ANI)
