Pilibhit, Mar 30 : A local court in Pilibhit will today hear a bail plea of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi.

The application was moved by his lawyers before Chief Judicial Magistrate Vipin Kumar.

On Sunday, the Mayawati Government slapped the National Security Act (NSA) on Varun late on Sunday night for inciting communal tension.

Earlier, Pilibhit police lodged an FIR against him for making inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks and creating a riot-like situation in the district.

Pilibhit, Mar 29 : Former Union Minister and mother of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, Maneka Gandhi, on Sunday said registration of cases against her son was part of a `political conspiracy'.

"The registration of cases against Varun is part of a political conspiracy. It is frivolous. Varun is not a criminal. It is incorrect to register cases against him," Maneka told reporter after meeting her son in the district jail.

Pilibhit, March 29 : Pilibhit police on Sunday lodged an FIR against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi for making inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks and creating a riot-like situation in the district.

The Kotwali Police Station has charged Gandhi for making communal remarks and insulting the minority community.

The police have also lodged an FIR against BJP''s election-in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Kalraj Mishra for violating the model code of conduct.

Pilibhit, Mar 28 : Over twenty activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got injured when police resorted to baton charge on them as they were staging protest against the arrest of party leader Varun Gandhi.

Five policemen are also reported to be injured.

Tension prevailed in the town as thousands of Varun's supporters came to the district jail where Varun was taken.

The activists allegedly attacked officials, destroyed police vehicles and indulged in bouts of stone throwing.

Pilibhit, Mar 28  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi moved a surrender plea in Pilibhit''s local court today.

The application was moved by his lawyers before Chief Judicial Magistrate Vipin Kumar. The court will hear a plea during the day.

Talking to reporters here, Varun said: "I am ready to go to jail."

Ahead of Varun''s arrival, party workers, who gathered here to support him, were arrested after they clashed with police.

They also blocked roads ahead of Varun''s arrival in Pilibhit. He left for Pilibhit early Saturday to court arrest there.

On Friday, Varun withdrew his anticipatory bail application from the Delhi High Court. The court had granted him anticipatory bail on March 20.
