Tesla’s annual production capacity soars to over 2,025,000 units as of end of Q1 2023

American electric vehicle (EV) pioneer Tesla Motors has revealed that its potential annual manufacturing output slightly increased to stand at more than 2,025,000 units as of the end of second quarter (Q2) of this year. The EV giant’s total production capacity was recorded at around 2,000,000 units at the end of Q1 2023. Considering the aforementioned figures, we can say that the company’s production capacity increased by 25,000 units. Tesla has been raising its production numbers in the recent quarters. The company has also offered discounts on various models, increasing the demand in many markets. In China, Tesla has been performing better than expected and the company has strong fan following despite higher prices.

The increase is associated with Tesla’s Giga Berlin production plant, which has increased its capacity from an estimated 350,000 units to 375,000 units. The estimated capacity at other production plants remained almost at the same levels as three months ago.

It is worth mentioning here that the company’s production in second quarter hit a new record of 479,700 units, up 86 per cent year-over-year. If the same production capacity is repeated four times, the company would produce more than 1.9 million units in a year.

Tesla Factory in Fremont, California has an annual production capacity of up to 650,000 units. It has the potential to produce up to 550,000 units of the Model 3/Model Y per year, and up to 100,000 units of the refreshed Model S/Model X. The figures represent no change on quarterly basis.

Tesla Giga Nevada, which is Tesla's first gigafactory, is responsible for producing lithium-ion battery cells. It produces 2170-type cylindrical battery cells in collaboration with Panasonic. A huge investment has been made to enable the plant to produce the 4680-type cylindrical battery cells.

Tesla Giga Texas in the U.S. is capable of producing more than 250,000 units per year. Commenting on Giga Texas, Musk said, "At Gigafactory Texas, in addition to the continued success of the Model Y ramp, we are also working on equipment installation for Cybertruck production, which remains on track for initial deliveries this year."

When it comes to overseas factories, Tesla Giga Shanghai in China, which is said to be Tesla’s largest factory in the world, has a production capacity of more than 750,000 per cent per annum. It mainly produces the Model 3 electric sedan and the Model Y crossover. Tesla Giga Berlin in Germany has an annual production capacity of 375,000 units. It mainly produces the Tesla Model Y powered by 2170-type cylindrical battery cells.
