Tibetan exiles protest in Delhi

Tibet mapNew Delhi, July 30 : Tibetan exiles living in India staged a demonstration here today outside the office of United Nations against Chinese occupation of their homeland.

Protesters, wearing yellow headbands and shirts with slogan "Save Tibet" written on them, carried Tibetan flags to symbolize their struggle for Tibetan independence.

They shouted slogans against the Chinese government and submitted a memorandum asking the United Nations to intervene and help in fulfilling the demands of six Tibetans sitting on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for their cause.

"We appeal to United Nations to support the Tibetan cause and fulfill the demands of six Tibetans who are sitting on hunger strike," said Tenzing Zorsang, a protestor.

The demonstrators also blamed China for violating Human Rights.

"These Olympics, which are being held in China, the whole country should unite and oppose it. Because Olympics are symbol for peace and brotherhood and China is a country, where human rights are always violated," said Dakpa Yeshi, another Tibetan protestor.

The Tibetans also plan to launch a mass movement based on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi''''s non-violent struggle under the aegis of Tibetan Youth Congress from August 7.

The Beijing Olympics begins on August 8.

Exiled Tibetans have been holding rallies and demonstrations to protest against Chinese policies in Tibet across the world.

China resumed fence-mending talks with envoys of Tibet''''''''s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on July 1 in a move that could burnish its international image weeks before the Chinese capital hosts the Olympics.

It is the second closed-door meeting between the representatives of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese Government since rioting erupted in Tibet in March and heaped international pressure on China to deal with the Nobel laureate. (ANI)
