Toshiba logs net loss in second quarter on flash-memory price fallsTokyo - Toshiba Corp on Tuesday reported a net loss of 26.9 billion yen (284.31 million dollars) in the three months through September 30 as flash memory prices continued to fall, compared to a net profit of 25 billion yen a year earlier.

The Japanese electronics company logged an operating profit of 700 million yen during the second quarter of the year through March 31, down from 61.3 billion yen during the same month a year before.

Sales were 1.88 trillion yen, down from 2.03 trillion yen.

For the six-month period, Toshiba reported the first interim net loss in five years, logging a loss of 38.45 billion yen, compared to a net profit of 45.66 billion yen a year before.

Operating profit of 82.52 billion yen a year before fell into the red in the six months through September to log a net loss of 23.47 billion yen.

Sales dropped 5.3 per cent to 3.5 trillion yen.

Toshiba expected a net profit of 70 billion yen for the full year through March 31, down 45.1 per cent from a year before.

The operating profit was to fall 37 per cent to 150 billion yen, and sales would slide 0.4 per cent to 7.7 trillion yen, the company said. (dpa)
