Tribal Land to be freed from Non-Tribals

At last the Orissa govt. has decided to act for the major cause of tribals.

The non-tribals holding tribal lands in the scheduled areas of the state will be evicted. The state revenue and disaster management department has issued instructions in this regard to the district collectors and sub-collectors in the scheduled areas. The districts, where the problem of grabbing of tribal land by non-tribals is rampant, include Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Raygada, Gajapati, Nawarangapur, Sundergarh, Mayurbhanja, Keonjhar.

Besides, some areas in the Balasore (Nilagiri) and Sambalpur district (Kuchinda) are also included in the scheduled areas.

The collectors have been asked to strictly enforce the Orissa scheduled area transfer of immovable property (by scheduled tribe) regulation, 1956.The sub-collectors have been instructed to identify such land and initiate action on such land, official sources said.

This comes in the wake of the recent communal disturbances in the Kandhamal district where large tracts of tribal land are alleged to have been grabbed by the non-tribals leading to the current ethnic conflict.Knadhmal violence has claimed 40 lives according to official reports. But un-officially it might touch 100 figure.
