UP urban areas to see franchisee system for power sector

UP urban areas to see franchisee system for power sector The UP urban areas will see the introduction of power transmission and distribution system through input-based franchisee by Mayawati government, which it thinks is vital for development. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held in Lucknow.

"The step could be the first move towards privatization of power distribution in the state which until now was in government hands," said the UP Power Corporation Limited
(UPPCL) sources.

Via a statement, the CM office informed that besides maintaining the distribution network, energy would be purchased by franchisee and sold to consumers under the scheme of things. "Such experiments have yielded positive and encouraging results in states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi," said the government.

This means that a company which would quote the maximum would be given the contract which would lead to a strict recovery of revenue and in professional ways.
