US Venture capitalists invest $7.7 billion in Q2, 2010

US-DollarVenture capital investors had put in $7.7 billion in US-based companies during the second quarter of 2010. This was shown by the data collected by Dow Jones VentureSource and says that there has been a significant increase in these investments.

The amount invested is the highest that has been invested in the US economy since 2008 when a total investment of $8.4 billion was done in as many as 699 deals.

Talking about the trend, Jessica Canning, global research director for Dow Jones VentureSource said that the venture capital financing has increased since the investors on one hand wanted to stay invested in their current portfolios and on the other hand wanted to use the opportunities provided by the changing environment.

She was happy and said that the levels are back to the once they were before recession hit.

The total deals were 13 per cent higher than last year and stood at 656, while capital increased by 26 per cent as against $6.1 billion last year.

Out of the total deals, IT and health care continued to take the bigger share in the pie.
