A new line of 2.5” portable hard drives, which include the world’s first half-terabyte 2.5” drive featuring an industry standard 9.5mm Z-height drive, has been announced by Verbatim.

The consumers and businesses would also get an advantage to add from 120 to 500GB removable capacity to their computers through these new external drives.

The new drive has weight of 170 grams and measures only 86mm x 137mm x 16mm. Another fabulous features of these drives are Verbatim's 500GB 2.5" SmartDisk HDD, which makes it extremely easy to carry while traveling with the lap top and also requires less desk space when connected  to a desktop system.

There are three 166 GB platters that utilize advanced Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology inside its rugged case, this technology helps in delivering a breakthrough storage capacity in a small form factor. An exclusive feature of 5400rpm spindle speed enhances the performance of the drive. It also includes cache memory of 8MB.

The Country Manager for Verbatim India, Ramesh Tuli said, “Being able to add half a Terabyte of storage to your PC or Mac with such a small, easy to carry device is a new milestone in the portable storage industry.” He furthr added, “Imagine the convenience of being able to store, transport and backup all of your digital content without having to span disks or carry multiple storage solutions.”

Though the price of this new 500GB drive is not yet decided, it will be available later in 2008.
