Wal-Mart offering Lumia 710 for free with two-year contract
Retail giant, Wal-Mart has started offering the new Nokia Lumia 710 for free with a two-year contract, raising doubts among technology enthusiasts over the ability of the new Windows Phone to attract customers without the attractive offer.
T-Mobile and Best Buy are offering the same device for $49.99 with two-year contract. It is believed that the attractive offer by Wal-Mart is not because phone is not attracting customers but because the retailer wants to have a competitive edge over others.
Nokia is facing pricing disagreement with sellers in the UK market as they want to sell the device at a lower price than what is recommended by the manufacturer. Experts say that the Lumia range requires pricing advantage for attracting customers and retailers always aim for offering a device at lower price if they doubt its ability in the market.
Nokia and Windows Phone created a lot of buzz at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES) mainly due to Lumia 900, which was announced at the mega event.
Nokia claims that Lumia 710 will appeal to those customers who are looking for a medium device for catering to their needs. Microsoft has hinted that manufacturers associated with Windows Phone will offer devices in all price range for different customers.
