Where are our flats? DDA allottees to ask Khanna

Delhi Development AuthorityOn December 16 last year, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) — the city’s largest land owner — announced the draw to 5,238 flats under its 2008 Housing Scheme.

Ten months later, the agency is yet to allot even a single flat to winners of the draw.

In January this year, the Union Urban Development Ministry had put a freeze on allotment of flats.

The freeze came after allegations were levelled against DDA that some builders forged documents and availed loans from banks to illegally get flats under the reserved category.

The case was handed over to Delhi Police’s Economic Offence Wing (EOW). But despite several reminders to expedite the investigations, the agency is yet to submit its report.

The delay is causing undue harassment to the over 5,000 successful allottees, many of whom are paying interest to banks for the loan they had taken to pay the Rs 1 lakh registration money.

Fed up with the delay, over 2000 allottees will meet Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna on Friday and request him to expedite the allotment.

“We don’t have a option but to meet the LG, who is head of the DDA,” said Neeraj Kodeshia, a successful allottee.

Kodeshia said the DDA and Delhi Police were playing a blame game at their cost. “Had there been a fraud, it would have surfaced by now,” Kodeshia said.

“Why can’t any of the agencies unearth any wrongdoing in the allotments even after investigating for so many months? We are living in uncertainty because of this.”
