Wine may help men lead longer lifeRecent study revealed that consumption of half a glass of wine a day can add five years to a man's life. Study also showed that the impact also depends on the amount also, more than half a glass negatively affects the life expectancy.  

Limited of consumption of other drinks also have positive effect but the biggest increase caused by wine.

Research team led Nutritionist Dr Martinette Streppel, of Wageningen University in the Netherlands analyzed data collected 1,373 Dutch men born between 1900 and 1920 over four decades up to 2000.

Data analysis revealed those men who drank less than half a glass of wine a day, lived around two and a half years longer as compared to those who drank beer and spirits. Wine-drinkers lived almost five years longer as compared teetotallers.

Dr Martinette Streppel said: "The cardio-protective effects of alcohol only held up for light consumption in middle-aged men."

She said light alcohol intake may increase "good" cholesterol, or reduce blood clotting.
