Wrong Injection Takes Two Lives In Kolkata

It was sheer negligence of a nurse and a doctor in a nursing home in Hooghly that took lives of two women. These women died after a wrong injection given by nurse on the prescription of the doctor. Police has arrested the doctor and the nurse.

Moushumi Saha (20) and Mantu Raut (22) were admitted to the nursing home with labour pains on Friday. Moushumi was a resident of Keshabpur near Arambag. She gave birth to a female child on Friday evening. Mantu was a resident of Tirole area near Arambag. She gave birth to a male child on Friday evening. After an injection given by the nurse this morning, the condition of both women started deteriorating. The nurse gave them another injection around 9 p.m on Sunday morning. The nurse gave these injections on the suggestion of Dr Modak. Both women died within half an hour after the injections were given.

Police had to use lathi charge to control angered mob collected in front of the nursing home. People destroyed vehicle of Dr Modak. Police took both nurse and doctor to Arambag police station. Police collected the injection samples from the nursing home for medical examination.

The inspector-in-charge of the Arambag police station Samir Lala said, “Relatives of the victims have submitted a written complaint against the accused. The nurse has been arrested while Dr Modak has been detained. The bodies of the victims have been sent to Arambag sub-divisional hospital for an autopsy.” Officials will investigate whether the nursing home was abiding by the Clinical Establishment Act or not.
