CITU Banking On UPA Allies To Stop Disinvestment Plan

CITU has started its campaign to stop the disinvestment plans by UPA CITU Banking On UPA Allies To Stop Disinvestment Plan government. The trade union wing of CPI has decided to woo the allies of UPA government in this regard. The president of CITU and leader of CPI (M) politburo have called Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK chief K Karunanidhi to sought his help.

Pandhe has written a letter to Karunanidhi to foil the plans of government as he had done in case of disinvestment of Neyveli Lignite Corporation.

Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK chief K Karunanidhi is a major UPA constituent and has a influential place in the national politics. His party is the second largest ally of the Congress in UPA. DMK has forced to withdraw the disinvestment of planes of Nalco and Nayveli in 2006. The present telecom minister, A Raja belongs to DMK which has proposed 10 per cent disinvestment of BSNL.

The union government is planning to disinvest 10 per cent of its stake in the telecom giant BSNL. Some other PSU’s are also in the disinvestment list of UPA. The BSNL Employees has threatened to start nationwide agitation in case of disinvestment of BSNl. The union has alleged Union Finance minister P. Chidambaram for the disinvestment plan of BSNL. The Union Ministry of Finance is, however, determined to disinvestment of BSNL. The CPI has earlier tried to derail the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement by pulling support to the union government.
