3 Gujarat VHP leaders grilled for defamatory SMS

Three top VHP leaders of Gujarat were grilled by Gandhnagar police for sending defamatory mobile messages in the name of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his government.

They are State general secretary Kaushik Mehta, Rajesh Shastri and Jagdish Dwivedi. They were grilled for over three hours.

Ashwin Patel is already in police custody. He was arrested on October 27. Police investigations revealed that the messages were sent from his mobile number.

"It was an attempt by the Modi government to harass the VHP leaders and humiliate Hindus," said Mehta after appearing before the police.

But the police denied such allegations saying that there was no question of anyone being harassed.

The company launched a new railway vehicle-making facility at Savli, Vadodara in Gujarat. It would produce stainless steel car bodies and bogies and carry out final assembly at Savli plant. It would start operation very soon, after orders of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

India, England cricket teams confident of doing well in one-day series

England Cricket Board Logo Rajkot (Gujarat), Nov 13: India and England cricket teams expressed confidence on Thursday, of performing well, a day before the first match of the seven-match one-day series between them.

India will look to adapt quickly after completing a 2-0 test series victory over Australia four days ago.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said in Rajkot, where the fist match would be played that players should learn to switch over from the test series mode to one-day series mode.

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, batsmen Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag, pacer Zaheer Khan and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh arrived in the

city ahead of the first match of seven-match series to be played on Friday.

Locals in the city gathered outside the hotel where the players are staying to have a glimpse of their favourite players.

Gujarat’s tobacco farmers fear a bleak future

Ahmedabad, Nov.9 : Gujarat, a hub of tobacco production, is today a major raw material provider to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala in the country. 

About 70 per cent of the population in Anand, Kheda, Vadodara, Sabarkantha and Banaskantha districts of Gujarat is connected to this unorganized sector.

But a sense of uncertainty prevails among the tobacco growers of Gujarat, following the Indian health ministry’s directive on mandatory pictorial warnings on all tobacco products from December 1. 

Government''s directive has put a question mark on the livelihood of a majority of the crisis-ridden Gujarat tobacco industry.
