Gujarat NRE acquires Australian-based Elouera mine, Stock up 3%

Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd has announced that that the company has completed the acquisition of the Australian-based Elouera mine (Elouera) from world's largest resources group BHP Billiton. BHP Billiton is a part of the Illawarra Coal Business located in New South Wales, Australia.

The company stated in a release that the acquisition was made through Gujarat NRE Resources NL (Gujarat), the Australian flagship firm of the Gujarat NRE Coke group.

Keshubhai upset with BJP central leadership for show cause notice

Gandhinagar(Guj. ), Dec 23: Slapped with a show cause notice for indulging in "anti-party" activities, an upset Keshubhai Patel has criticised the central leadership saying it would have been better if he had been asked to explain his views in person.

"If I would have been called there and asked what I had to say about it, it would have been better..., " he told reporters in his first reaction to the party's action against him.

The former Chief Minister said he will "definitely reply" to the notice issued to him by the party once hereceives its copy.

SC to hear petitions against Modi's remark on Sohrabuddin killing

New Delhi, Dec. 10 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra ModiThe Supreme Court will today hear two separate petitions seeking action against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on his "inflammatory" remarks about the 2005 fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

A Bench headed by Justice Tarun Chatterjee will hear the case.

The petitions were filed by senior counsel Dushyant Dave on the behalf of Rubbabuddin Sheikh, brother of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and by Prashant Bhushan, who appeared for Javed Akhtar.

Both sought an inquiry into Modi’s justification for the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

Gujarat villagers reel under flooding from ONGC pipeline breach

Gamanpura (Gujarat), Dec 1: Residents of Gamanpura Village in Gujarat are reeling from floods caused by the gushing of underground water from ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) pipelines.

Buildings, homes and farmlands in and around the Mehsana district village have been inundated with silt and damaged crops.

Villagers have expressed their helplessness over the problems they are facing.

"The mud and sand that is coming from the underground is now all over our farmlands. All our farms have been destroyed. We do not know how we are going to survive and what we are going to grow,” said Jayant Patel, a farmer.

ONGC officials claimed that there was no emission of any harmful gases or chemicals due to the leakage.

The party has hired small vans with LCD screens to move across remote areas of the state to highlight the party’s achievements.

"The idea is to reach out to remote villages, where there is no cable connection or television and other means of campaigning cannot reach them. These video vans will go there and impart UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's message," said Rohit Patel, a party worker.
