India's moon mission on final leg to lunar orbit

Chandrayaan-1New Delhi - India's first moon mission Chandrayaan-1 entered lunar space early Tuesday for its final journey into lunar orbit, news reports said.

"The operation to put Chandrayaan into lunar space went off very well. The complex manoeuvre was carried out around 5 am (2330 GMT Tuesday) ... to place the unmanned spacecraft 380,000 kilometres away from earth and 1,000 kilometres from the moon," Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) director S Satish was quoted as saying by IANS news agency.

Patil to review security threat in North Eastern states

Union Home Minister Shivraj PatilNew Delhi, Nov 4 : Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will hold a meeting with top police officials from the North Eastern here on November 5 to review the emerging security threat in that region.

According to police sources, Patil is expected to chalk out a fresh security strategy to deal with the terror threat from across the border and within the states.

The meeting will review the overall security scenario in the region vis--vis the recent serial blasts in Assam, Tripura and Manipur.

Chidambaram meets PSU bank heads to review interest rates

The meeting comes a day after the captains of Indian industry met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and demanded steps for enhancing liquidity and steps to create environment conducive for lowering of interest rates.

Belgium King given ceremonial reception in New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 4 : The King of Belgium, Albert II, who is on a ten-day visit to India, was given a ceremonial reception in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The monarch and the Belgian delegates met President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Accompanied by Queen Paola, the Belgian monarch heads a high powered delegation, including Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht and CEOs of key Belgian companies and top officials of universities of the European nation.

Later in the day, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath would hold a meeting with the Belgian monarch and his delegation.

India needs ICT revolution to move forward: Kapil Sibal

ISKCON devotees take out procession in New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 4 : Hundreds of devotees belonging to the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) took out a procession of Hindu deity lord Jagannath in New Delhi on Monday.

The procession or ‘yatra’ was along the lines of the famous traditional “Rath Yatra” (chariot festival) of lord Jagannath, held in Puri District of Orissa every year.

The devotees sang hymns and danced in front of a chariot carrying the limbless wooden images of three deities - lord Jagannath, lord Balabhadra and their sister Subhadra.
