Lahore, Oct 31 : With the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set to review Shoaib Malik’s performance as the national team captain at the end of this year, flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi has expressed his desire to lead the side if given a chance.

He made it clear that if given a chance to captain Pakistan, he would not turn down the offer, the Daily Times reported.

However, he admitted that at present he was under tremendous pressure to retain his place in the side due to a slump in his batting form.

“Every cricketer dreams to be the captain of his national team and I am no different, but at the moment my main concern is to retain my spot in the team as my batting form has been a source of concern even for me,” Afridi told reporters in Karachi.

“I know I am under pressure to retain my place that is my first priority because playing for Pakistan is my life,” he added.

The PCB would review Malik’s captaincy tenure after December 31 with many former players and critics believing he is not capable of being a successful leader.

Although Afridi declined to comment on the PCB’s decision to sack coach Geoff Lawson, he hailed Intikhab Alam’s appointment.

“The decision to appoint Intikhab is a good one because he is a senior person and a respectable figure. More importantly he treats every player the same way,” he said. (ANI)
